The Dark Ages | West Africa Overland Realities

Team rotations kick off as the expedition pushes deep into the heart of West Africa. What looks manageable on a map turns into a battle on the ground.

Moving through Senegal, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Ghana, Togo, Benin, and into Nigeria, the team faces nonstop delays—fuel concerns, visa issues, endless checkpoints, and road conditions that slow everything down. Some border crossings run smoothly, while others take far longer than expected. A true example of one step forward, two steps back. The team’s “make it home before Christmas” timeline starts to feel nearly impossible.

Political tension in the region adds another layer of uncertainty, forcing the team to stay sharp and constantly adjust. A questionable night camped near a border leaves them wondering if they’ll make their next hard deadline: a military convoy through Cameroon that won’t wait.
