It’s no secret that the Lexus LX570 can be transformed into an overlander which can make all of your friends jealous—and it makes sense, since it's based on the Toyota Land Cruiser. Now, Lexus has created its own version of the LX570 as the ultimate adventure vehicle with the J201 concept, which features enhancements from the powertrain to the roof.

Lexus debuted the J201 concept on Tuesday, and it'll make its public debut later this week when it participates in the 2020 Rebelle Rally. Driven by 2019 Rebelle 4x4 class champions Rachelle Croft and Taylor Pawley, the J201 takes a standard Lexus LX 570 and turns everything up to 11.

Lexus has just revealed a heavily modified version of its GX SUV that is perfect for those that want to do some overlanding while retaining at least a modicum of luxuriousness.

While you might see plenty of first-gen GXs rocking light bars and knobby tires, it's pretty rare to see a brand new GX fully kitted out with off-road gear.

Yet here comes Toyota’s luxury division, charging out of the blue with what could well be the greatest automaker-made overlanding rig we’ve ever seen: The Lexus GXOR Concept.

This truck's so well equipped for trekking continents, however, that Lexus might have expanded the full meaning of GXOR to Gone eXtremely Off Road.

Yes, it’s true. A supercharged 550-horsepower, lifted, fully-equipped LX-based concept vehicle is tastefully strewn upon your screen. Named the Lexus J201 Concept, it is the plus-alpha iteration of the renowned four-wheel drive Lexus flagship. And elevated by the utmost level of omotenashi – culturally-attuned, anticipatory, Japanese hospitality – J201 is a bona fide instrument meticulously crafted to enable and embrace the most salient of retreats imaginable.

On the heels of its impressive GXOR concept in 2019, Lexus this year steps up to the plate again with a new overland concept based on its flagship LX570 luxury SUV. But don’t let the stealthy all-black look of this build fool you.

Lexus and Expedition Overland have turned the LX 570 flagship SUV into the most capable version of itself.

In an exercise of imagination, Lexus let its designers concoct the J201 Concept, an out-and-out overlanding monster set to make a debut at the Rebelle Rally. Oh, and it’s fitted with a supercharged V-8, in case you wanted to know.

Lexus transformed the LX, its biggest SUV, into a supercharged off-roader that sends chills down the Ford F-150 Raptor's spine. Although it's only a concept, it will attempt to tame the desert during the 2020 Rebelle Rally.

The Lexus LX is one of the most luxurious SUVs in the full-size segment, but it also has serious off-roading chops thanks to its links to Toyota's Land Cruiser. This makes it an ideal vehicle for fans of the great outdoors who may not necessarily want to give up the luxury experience. Lexus is out to reinforce this message with its J201 Concept, developed in partnership with overlanding expert Expedition Overland.

Lexus' SUV segment is anchored by LX 570, its eight-passenger, 5.7L V-8-powered flagship. With 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and full-time four-wheel drive (as well as interior/exterior treatments, accessories, and all the bells and whistles that are synonymous with Lexus luxury), it's a perfect mashup of city sophisticated and country-road capable. And that's where the buck stops.

This Lexus is lifted with a modified suspension, Stoptech brakes, off-roading tires, a performance differential, and a supercharger bolted to the V8 which up rates output to 550 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, according to Lexus.

Overlanding—the practice of outfitting a 4×4 rig with larger tires, camping supplies, and other accoutrements for self-sustaining exploration—has never been more popular. In an effort to show what’s possible with its range-topping LX 570 flagship SUV, Lexus tapped well-known firm Expedition Overland to help upfit the Toyota Land Cruiser’s more luxurious cousin for a rugged life off the beaten path.

Lexus has teamed up with the experts at Expedition Overland, to release the J201 Concept. The trail-hungry, adventure-ready vehicle is built on the flagship LX 570 platform and is heavily equipped to tackle any terrain it encounters.

In case anybody has forgotten, Lexus makes big SUVs too! Of course, as a Lexus, it has a luxury feel to it. But, Lexus does not want people to think that the LX 570 flagship is just a pavement queen. To prove it, the automaker just launched the J201 concept based on the aforementioned SUV.

There’s this thing called the Rebelle Rally. It’s an all-women, all off-road, 10-day time-distance rally/competition. The goal is to pass through several checkpoints strewn throughout California and Nevada with little more than maps, a road book, and a compass.

Odin initially followed in the tyre tracks of several other Expedition Overland rigs but was taken to the next level, built to handle even the most extreme conditions. As the most capable Gladiator in the Jeep range, this 2020 Rubicon Edition was the perfect platform to build from.
