We at XOverland are thrilled to partner with Pennzoil this year for all of our synthetic motor oil needs.

Honestly, we never knew there was so much to learn about motor oil, but the awesome folks at Pennzoil have done an incredible job educating us on the subject.

Did you know that Pennzoil is the first company to use natural gas for their base oil instead of crude oil? Because of this, they guarantee that their synthetic motor oils will extend the life of your engine and protect it for up to 15 years or 500,000 miles, whichever comes first[1].

Second, they are working extremely hard to be a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 or sooner. The carbon neutral products  within the existing Pennzoil Platinum line are a step toward this target. You can read more on that below.

We are thrilled to put all of this to the test this year on all of our adventures! We started each of our rigs with a fresh oil change before our Baja expedition, and will continue to run all of our rigs on the synthetic line to find out for ourselves.

How Pennzoil is Avoiding, Reducing and Offsetting Emissions:

By using more recycled content in their plastic bottles, Pennzoil plans to be above the existing 25% recycled resin content required by current legislation. They are also moving some of their larger plastic packaging, such as pails, to contain recycled resin while exploring different packaging concepts that are more sustainable.

Installing energy monitoring systems and LED lighting at select facilities has allowed Pennzoil to improve the energy efficiency of their sites, thus reducing their carbon intensity in their operations by 35% since 2016.

Pennzoil supports internationally accredited carbon offsetting projects such as the Katingan Mentaya project in Indonesia or the Qinghai Afforestation Project in China, and the Green Trees project in the US. These projects naturally remove CO2 from the atmosphere while also improving biodiversity, protecting endangered species, and supporting local communities.
